  • Solar energy is measured in kilowatt-hour. 1 kilowatt = 1000 watts
     
  • 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) = the amount of electricity required to operate a 100 watt light bulb for 10 hours. Any solar energy system you buy will give information on the amount of energy generated in terms of kWh's.
     
  • An average domestic solar energy system will provide about 40% of the energy requirements for a household.
     
  • How solar energy works in your home will depend on the size of the system and various other factors such as the direction your roof faces, how sunny it is and the quality of the system you install.
     
  • In the first part of 2012 11.1% of electricity used in the UK was produced by renewable technology. The government’s aim it to increase this to 15% by 2020.
