The government-backed Feed In Tariff scheme means that you can actually be paid for the electricity you generate if you install solar panels on your roof.
It’s a powerful incentive to install your own micro-generation plant – and thousands of people have gone ahead since the FIT was launched last year (see the section on Solar Power Roofs for more details).
But there is a catch – not all roofing companies have the right qualification to install solar panels, and, if you chose roofers who don’t, then you won’t get the money.
The certification to look for is the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). The roofing company needs to be MCS registered AND the product needs be certified as well.
The is the government’s way of making sure that the money it is allocating to encourage people to use solar power is only going to reputable companies and good quality products.
If you choose a Redland Select member who has MCS Certification you can be sure that they will use Redland Solar products (all of which carry the MCS certification) or other reputable Solar products and the roofing company itself will also be MCS approved.
