Redland Select roofer, Paul Stevens of AST Roofing Ltd, has been shortlisted in the Sustainable Roofs (Solar) category of the 2012 National Federation of Roofing Contractor’s (NFRC) Awards.
Homeowner, Mark Sanders, in a bid top make his home more energy efficient commissioned Paul to install Redland’s Solar PV to power his home including his under floor heating, low-power LED lights and electric water heater.
Following a loft extension to the mid-terrace house, Paul recycled the existing Redland Cambrian tiles, which were laid in the early 1980s and relocated them to the rear elevation of the roof. The front elevation was remodelled with two new Velux windows and Cambrian integrated Solar PV was installed - a total of 36 Solar PV Tiles, providing 1.58kWp of electricity. The roof was installed using Ambi-Dry Verge units, also meaning the whole roof was a complete Dry-Fix installation.
Paul Stevens of AST Roofing, said: “Since December the system has generated over 500kWh units, whilst only consuming 398kWh – the icing on the cake as Mark also benefitted from the Feed In Tariff.
“Mark was also heavily involved in all aspects of the design, choosing to upgrade the roof to a completely dry-fix installation as he liked the clean lines of the Ambi-Verge units. He even attended a Redland Solar PV training course to learn more prior to the installation”.
As the new Solar PV and tiles were installed using Redland’s dry-fix system and fitted by a Redland Select member, it offered complete reassurance of a durable, well-fitted roof.
