If someone suggested you could use concrete to improve the look of your home you’d probably laugh in their face. I know I would. Unless you’re going for a dull, grey and boring theme, surely concrete can’t be the solution for attractive homebuilding & renovating? But actually it can be, and it already does. Without sounding like too much of a know it all, allow me to explain...
To start with, step outside your home and take a look at the roof tiles. Do they look like they’re made from concrete? No? Yet, for the majority of you, they are.
Concrete is used more than any other man-made material in the world. It has been going since the Roman times and has served our homes well. However, what most people don’t realise (myself included once upon a time) is that concrete is really adaptable and can be manufactured to look like pretty much anything. This is not only great from an affordability point of view, but it is also great for reliability, as concrete is built to last.
Surprisingly, when it comes to roof tiles, concrete is used to create beautiful looking tiles that resemble clay. In fact, concrete tiles take the biggest share in the roofing materials market, showing just how popular they are. Redland, as a manufacturer of both clay and concrete roofing materials, also points out that it is more environmentally friendly to manufacture concrete tiles than clay tiles.
If your home improvement projects this summer include embarking on building an extension or carrying out a loft conversion you will need to think about the roof tiles, and hopefully you will now think about concrete. Check out our full range of concrete tiles on our Tile Selector.
