Scaffolding - do I need it?

A significant part of the cost of any roofing work is likely to be the scaffolding.   There are stringent regulations for anyone working at height, so your contractor must use scaffolding when working on the roof.

The Health and Safety Executive set the rules which are likely to require scaffolding and protective structures to stop anyone (or any thing) falling off the roof.

The HSE also stipulates that no work should be carried out in icy, rainy or windy conditions.

Reputable roofing contractors will abide by all Health and Safety requirements and with good reason.  Any work carried out at height is dangerous, and, according to the Health and Safety Executive, roofers account for 24% (by far the biggest group) of contractors who are killed by falls from roofs.
